Another great evening at the Fuji Yama restaurant in Newcastle.

73 fun loving foodies turned up to enjoy themselves and did just that. Superb food Teppan-Yaki style, cooked by the chefs while they juggled eggs, throwing them in the air and catching them in their hat. Then of course it was the diners turn to catch the eggs. Excellent fun.

£458 was raised for the Northumberland Masonic Charity Association.

Thanks to everyone who gave their support.

Next year’s event will be held on Sunday 13th May.

It was a privilege and pleasure to present Bro Duncan Richardson with his 50th certificate at his home in Heaton.

Bro Richardson is a member of St. Gabriel Lodge No.2995 and W Bro Tommy Foo and John Bartlett accompanied me on this special occasion.

Unfortunately Bro Richardson, who celebrated his 82nd birthday on the 30th of March, has been suffering from ill health and had been unable to attend the Lodge to receive his Certificate.

In 1966, two of Duncan’s neighbours who were Freemasons in St. Gabriel Lodge, discussed the possibility with him of becoming a Freemason.

Duncan and his wife Margaret had attended a number of socials and ladies nights over the years and had always enjoyed themselves, enjoying both the company and the dancing.

So with Margaret’s approval Duncan asked to join the lodge and was initiated on 4th January 1967.

Duncan served his apprenticeship as a joiner in Swan Hunters Shipyard and later in life, worked for Newcastle City Council.

He has a large garden which has been a source of relaxation over the years for Margaret and himself. Unfortunately Margaret suffered from ill health in her later years and Duncan was her carer up to her death two years ago.

Duncan is still a keen gardener and enjoys growing tomato plants given to him by his neighbours.

W Bro Tommy Foo, who recently received his 50th certificate, read out the contents of the certificate and we then congratulated Bro Richardson on achieving this Masonic milestone.

On Saturday 6th May at Wylam Masonic Hall, a social evening was held to raise funds for the 1st Winlaton Scout Group; Simon Babb their group leader was also in attendance on the night. The event was well supported by brethren from a few lodges and a good time was had by all.  A sum of £343 was raised on the night and with a donation from George Stephenson Lodge, a cheque for £500.00 was presented by W Bro. G Tuck of George Stephenson Lodge.

An additional £100 was donated from a member of the public when he found out about the event and how Freemasons had helped the 1st Winlaton Scout Group so all together; £600.00 was raised for an excellent cause.

The donation will help towards the refurbishment of the scout hut.
