The Festival President's Message to the Brethren of Province of Northumberland
Brethren, words cannot adequately express my gratitude to you for your magnificent response to my the persistent, but necessary, entreaties over the past two years for your support of the Festival in aid of the Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys. Not only was the target of £2.5 million, at one stage considered by some as optimistic perhaps even unrealistic, achieved it was, as you will have seen or by now heard, exceeded by some margin. It was consequently with great pleasure and much satisfaction that on behalf of all of us I was able to present to the President of the Trust, V W Bro Mike Woodcock, a cheque for £2,969,247.00 at the Festival Banquet on Wednesday (13th May 2009) evening. I am sure that all those Brethren who were able to attend the Banquet felt justifiably proud of their contributions to such a worthwhile cause and that they will recount to you just how special an evening it was, enhanced by the presence of our Assistant Grand Master R W Bro. David Williamson and his wife Margaret, by the Chief Executive of the Trust W Bro. Les Hutchinson, by the President and the Chief Executive of the Freemasons Grand Charity V W Bro Grahame Elliott and Laura Chapman, by Trustees and Members of the Board of the RMTGB and by many friends from other Provinces. That the final result exceeded all expectations has been due to the signal and sustained efforts of our Deputy Provincial Grand Master and Assistant Provincial Grand Masters, the Provincial Secretary and the Charity Stewards, to the dedication and enthusiasm of the members of the Festival Committee and the Social Committee (all of whom worked so hard on both Tuesday and Wednesday evenings), but essentially to you Brethren for your contributions. I am most grateful and thank you all most sincerely, sentiments which will I am sure be echoed loud and long by those children whose continued welfare by your efforts has been guaranteed.
Peter Magnay DL – Provincial Grand Master
